An evening with EE at Lights of Soho

The other week I went to the most amazing venue in Soho for a little pre-festival meet up with EE to learn a bit about their upcoming plans and in particular the fact that they are the official technology and comms partners of Glastonbury - no pressure then EE!

Held in Lights of Soho, a neon-inspired social enterprise, members club and gallery, the surroundings were perfectly matched for the evening ahead. I was totally mesmerised from the moment I stepped inside and I thought the world's first light gallery was a fantastic location to learn about EE's forward thinking ideas and plans.

We were treated to talks from the core EE campaign team where we learnt about their current projects, their future plans, and the work that they've already done. Here are just a few of the stand out points below:

  • EE were the first European operator to surpass 14 million 4G customers in December 2015
  • Their 4G coverage reaches 99% of the UK population today - which equals 75% of the UK geography. Their plan is to extend this to 95% geographic coverage by 2020.
  • EE engineers upgrade more than 100 sites a week to 4G
  • They created a world first red carpet selfie-taking robot for the BAFTA red carpet this year
  • They launched the 4GEE Action Cam, another world first - this time a 4G enabled action camera - allowing James Kingston to perform epic stunts across London while they were live streamed from the Wembley arch
  • They're continuing to work on ways to provide emergency coverage during disasters and temporary coverage solutions that withstand flooding
  • EE will be down at Worth Farm this summer keeping Glasto goers connected with a temporary 4G network, making lots of festival peeps super happy! Pretty sure every festival I've ever been to has had like zero internet, so this is such a fab idea

As well as hearing about all the above it was such a great opportunity to mingle with other bloggers/influencers from the music, fashion, digital and lifestyle sectors. I'd not actually been to a blog event in SO long before this so I really appreciate the opportunity to get back out there and have a chat with like minded people -  I always feel so much more inspired after these kind of meet ups as well.

I also got the chance to play around with a virtual reality headset, which was very interesting especially after a couple of white wines... Oh and there was pizza, I can't forget the pizza! We were honestly treated so well the whole evening and I had a beautiful time networking, making friends, learning lots and indulging in a glass or two and bite to eat.

A massive thank you to UK Blog Awards for organising this and of course to EE - thanks for having me!
